Flash Back Friday – Indian Summer

The winds of October
Are stifling
No relief in sight

As sweat rolls down my back
I contemplate
And try to Focus
On that time
When life felt
Much more pleasant.
When my throat wasn’t parched
My hands weren’t swollen
And my skin wasn’t salty.
I was comfortable.

But in that recollection
I realize
That I’m constantly trying to avert discomfort
And in doing so
I’m not present
I’m not present to see
The beauty and miracles that will unfold
During this Indian Summer.
