Reunion ‘Round the Rails

Who doesn’t love a great birthday party, and how many folks can say that they’ve attended a 100th birthday party?  It just so happens that, Saturday, May 27th, a 100th birthday celebration is going to take place in Russellville Downtown!

And everyone is invited!

In 1917, Missouri Pacific opened the doors of  the Russellville Depot, offering passenger service on the until 1960.  From there, Union Pacific utilized the structure for freight and maintenance.  In 1999, the building was purchased by the city, and renovated by a group of energetic volunteers known as the Friends of the Depot.

These energetic volunteers, along with Main Street Russellville, deemed it a must to commemorate this milestone, especially in light of the fact that only a handful of these structures still remain standing in the Natural State.  They’ve affectionately labeled this birthday bash “Reunion ‘Round the Rails.”

Attendees can enjoy a day filled with historical accounts, storytelling, music, games, and even a birthday cake contest! (And all those who attend get to eat the cakes!)  The celebration will end with a fireworks display at 9:00 p.m.  The schedule of events can be found here!

Gallery B will be taking pictures in The Alley on Friday night from 6:30 until 9:00 p.m. in conjunction with Reunion ‘Round the Rails.   Inspired by this anniversary, we are planning a “Railroad Themed” backdrop, including a train silhouette!

Reunion ‘Round the Rails is free, family friendly, and a great way to kick off the summer!

    1. First of all, congratulations! That being said, unfortunately, we were at Reunion Round the Rails in the morning, but had to leave to shoot a wedding in the afternoon. I’ll be out of town tomorrow, but I’ll call the Depot on Tuesday to see if anyone took pics of the cake contest.

      1. Oh, you’re so awesome. Thank you! One guy took a photo for the newspaper but after contacting him, he wants $50 for the photo and it doesn’t even show the whole cake. So hopefully someone else took some better photos and will perhaps share them with me or be more reasonable. Thank you for your help. I can’t believe I worked so hard on that for days and didn’t get any decent photos of it. I was just so tired by the time I delivered it and I didn’t even think of it.
