Tornillo Flat Overlook

Upon exiting  the Big Bend Fossil Exhibit, a white sidewalk leading upwards captured our attention.  The sidewalk ended at an overlook of Tornillo Flat, so named for the small mesquite tree, the tornillo, that flourish in this area.

At Tornillo Flat, scientists have discovered remains from the Paleocene (65-23 million years ago) and Eocene Epoch (56-34 million years ago) as well as the Cretaceous Era (145-66 million years ago).  These facts leads one to believe that this breathtaking view provides more than good fodder for a lowly Arkansas photographer!
