New Orleans Sculpture Garden

It was a gorgeous January day. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and the temperature was hovering somewhere around 70 degrees. Deciding to take advantage of these temperate conditions, we headed for a gorgeous greenspace simply named City Park.

While tooling around in a rented tandem bike, a few sculptures displayed on paths only accessible by foot captured our attention. So, after a fun filled hour of literally being a back seat driver, I suggested a little stroll through this eclectic garden. Game for anything with his trusty camera, Kurt acquiesced.

I’m so glad he did, because, little did we know that we had discovered the The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, one of the most renowned outdoor art environments in the world!

Having both an extensive collection and a passion for the arts, the Bestoffs donated seed money and initial works in 2003 for this project, which borders the New Orleans Museum of Art. Today, more than 90 amazing works of art are scattered throughout eleven acres of lush, peaceful landscapes which include ponds, flowers, and trees.

A wonderful example of an individual’s passion benefitting many, this was a fantastic way to spend the afternoon, and I look forward to the opportunity to return!
